Great Music & Video Libraries, Search Tools, Mai-Tais, And Hula Girls!mSoft Inc. Post-NAB 2005 Wrap-Up - Great Music & Video Libraries, Search Tools, Mai-Tais, And Hula Girls!
What Was Happening At The Booth?

Once again, we were pleased to host a number of music libraries in our booth, each with their own "search stand." Our thanks to Groove Addicts, APM, Megatrax, MasterSource, Riptide Music, Downright Music, DeWolfe Music, 615 Music, and Media On Demand for joining the party at NAB!

Speaking of parties, we had TWO at NAB right in the booth. Monday and Tuesday from 4-6pm was "Library Luau" time with a frozen Mai-Tai machine and two talented and lovely Hula dancers to keep everyone happy and entertained. Put that with some great giveaways from Groove Addicts (those little ukes were really cool!) and mSoft Inc., and this was the place to be to cool out at the end of the show.

NAB Is Just A Blur To Me - Tell Me Again Who's mSoft Inc.?

We feel your pain, we were there too! If you don't already know us, we're mSoft Inc. of Los Angeles. We make lightning fast systems for busy production facilities like yourselves to designed to take away the walls of music and sound effects library CDs - and now video management with the new VisionClip that debuted at NAB - and replace them with an affordable, easy to use in-house networked server system that interfaces with Avid, Pro Tools, or any other workstation you have. We even create automatic cue sheets, too! Our systems are installed at most of the large broadcasters, post houses and game producers you know. We are the system that you always said would "someday" exist. We talked to a number of people who said that they've been looking for a system like this for years - well, look no further, we've got it.

So, What's This New Video Server System You Have?

Thanks for asking! We debuted VisionClip, our video library server system, which can be added to any mSoft Inc. MusicCue or ServerSound asset management system or be installed as a stand alone product. Any image or video libraries can be searched by keywords, genre, etc. and thumbnail versions auditioned, with full quality video copies transferred to any workstation.

The low res audition version of the clips can be Quicktime files or whatever you want, and the hi res files can be whatever your workstations need - it doesn't matter! Many people were very excited when they realized that it could be used for loading up their own video clips (with time code of course), and then auditioning music and SFX against the video. We've been doing a lot of quotes and our customers have already shown us lots of applications for managing video clips locally or nationwide in the post production and broadcast arenas. That's Cool, But I'm An Audio Guy. So What's New With mSoft Inc.'s MusicCue Software?

MusicCue 3.6! New features include:

  • A new automatic usage tracking feature. Clicking on the details window for any piece of music within the system will show exactly how it has been used.
  • Automatic and accurate to the tenth of a second cue sheets. MusicCue 3.6 can generate a cue sheet of what actually went to air by reading an EDL or Fairlight ML file from any production.
  • On Air Pro interface option: mSoft Inc. has teamed together with Thought Development to offer a transfer of information from mSoft Inc. servers into their On Air Pro data handling system. On Air Pro is designed to automate the on-air promotion process for broadcast and cable networks, and Thought Development & mSoft Inc. have many mutual customers that should be excited about the new interface ability. Who Got Your System Since The Last Time I Got One Of These Things?
  • A little place somewhere in California called Dreamworks just put in a 1TB system to manage their music and SFX. Steven Moder at Dreamworks ordered the system with some new SFX libraries as well, with a site license to interface all their Mac DAWs to the server.
  • Fox Broadcasting in Los Angeles just installed a 10TB system for their On Air Promos Department. This makes the third mSoft system at Fox since Fox Digital bought one of our first systems way back when we started in 1998 - thanks for believing in us, guys!
  • CBS Television City expanded from a totally redundant 12TB system (that's 24TB total) to a dual 15TB server, so they won't run out of room for new music for another 4,000 CDs... of course, at their "burn rate" on music, that could be just months from now.
  • Expression College For Digital Arts, a great school for teaching recording etc. outside of San Francisco, has just ordered an mSoft server for their students to find music & SFX for their classroom sessions. We're very happy to have been chosen again by a recording school for this type of solution, since we know that schools want to have their students use the tools they're likely to use in their careers later.

OK - that's them - now how about you? Call us for more info or a quote!
