What's New at AES? mSoft MusicCue Version 3.5, and lots of free stuff!
If you're headed to the Audio Engineering Society convention over October 28-31 at Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, make sure that mSoft's booth 705 is one of the stops you make. We'll be showing the new 3.5 version of our search software, raffling off three sets of the SoundStorm 1,000 FX sampler sets (can you say "free stuff"?), giving out the new mSoft "CD coasters" (you didn't think we were using them for audio, did you?) and having a little wine and cheese at the end of the day on Friday Oct. 29th to get you primed to go hit the great San Francisco restaurants.
We're just a couple booths down from Digidesign this year, so you won't have any trouble finding us! Like we did at NAB, we're extending the invitation to the music libraries to use our booth to show their wares. So far, the current list of libraries joining us includes Five Alarm Music, Lazybones Music, Music Epicenter & Westar Music; but stay tuned for 11th hour additions in October's Ezine.
Here's the new features of the 3.5 version showing at AES - don't worry, we'll be updating all of our current users that are under support soon after the show.
1. Newest Music First: The new search sort default returns the latest music added to your system that fits your search first - across all your libraries.
2. More Like This: From any piece of music in your search results, find all the rest of the versions with the same name.
3. New duration filter: A great way to narrow your search results. Set it to nothing less than 2 minutes to leave out all the commercial length edits from your results. (If you want to find the edited version, just click on the tracks' "more like this" link)
4. New Sub-Search of Results: Search within any returned list by keywords within CD title, track title, description or remark, or see a list of categories linked within any search result set.
5. Drill Down By Category: Drill down to a category / sub-category from a track details will only find matches within the prior search
6. Frame Accurate Cue Sheets: Drop an EDL (CMX 3600 or GBG7) on the browser - it will create a cue sheet accurate to a second.
7. 10x Faster!: The speed of drilling down to a category / sub category or searching keywords is 10 times faster than prior versions
9. "What's New": Find your new monthly updated music as a special 'favorite' category.
10. mSoftPlayer 2.0 - The new version is now fully cross - platform , same look and feel on MAC OS9, OSX and all PC versions.
11. Spot copy / paste: Just copy and paste the contents of any existing spot to any new one.
12. Last but not least - a new design for the project management buttons - and a completely revised, on-line, hyper-linked user manual for everyone at http://www.msoftmusic.com/help.htm.
If you would like to go to AES and need a pass or want to book a demo time, call our office manager Jen Kays @ 818-716-7081, or go to http://www.aes.org/events/117/vip.cfm?124 for a VIP pass on line.
New Music Libraries available for their mSoft users
Here is a list of the latest libraries that have signed on with mSoft to be available for their customers on our servers: 8118 Music, American Music Company, DL Music, Freeplay Music, Heavy Hitters, Music Epicenter, Ocean Beach Productions, OGM Music, Riptide Music, and TRF Music. Welcome to mSoft's unique little "UN of Music", currently at 15TB and growing.
Independent Studios of Milwaukee orders the city's first mSoft server
Milwaukee's Independent Studios has just ordered a 1TB system for managing their SFX and music libraries. The 2TB server will handle their current 1.5TB of music and SFX and still have room for about 800 CDs of new music updates - of course, they won't come on CD, they'll arrive every month on a USB2 drive (we call 'em "data trucks") that they unload into the system and send back for next month's music. Peter Batchelder, the facility's music librarian, recommended the system to owner Randy Bobo and Trish Sheppard, Independents' Business Manager; as the edge they needed to let him spend his time putting his considerable music knowledge to work for their customers and not digging through lost and scratched CDs. The studio is a full service audio facility with three sound studios with adjoining recording booths, offers sound design for picture and radio, surround sound mixing, recording, ISDN capabilities, original music composition and (obviously) extensive music and sound effects libraries. The system is the first mSoft server in the city, and should be a huge selling point for bringing new business into the already busy facility started by Randy in 1991.
Optimus, Chicago
Knox McCormac, Director of Engineering at Chicago's Optimus, recently took delivery of a 2 TB server system for their SFX and Music libraries. In addition, they purchased some new SFX libraries, including a 1,000 FX sampler of the new SoundStorm SFX. The system will be accessed by their 13 Avid & ProTools DAWS. Currently the largest mSoft installation in the Chicago area, Optimus is a busy award winning facility creating commercials for the highest profile advertising agencies in the business, with numerous A/CP National and International Monitor awards to their credit. A full service facility, they offer their customers color correction, film transfer, and visual effects as well as audio mixing. mSoft is proud to be a part of re-defining what "full service" means in the Chicago production community.
E! Entertainment, Los Angeles
The Los Angeles' offices of E! Entertainment have just taken delivery of a brand new 4TB mSoft server system. The team at E! were very excited to be getting an automated way of keeping track of their music use reporting through our new EDL generated cue sheets. The 4TB system full production quality 48K/16 bit files for all their music and SFX as well as .mp3 versions, our ProMaster ingestion application which allows them to add their own content to the system, and a site license for as many DAW users as they will need within their facility. Marian Inova, Dtr. Post Production; Ray Sunglao, Post Production Supervisor, and Michael Persh, Music Licensing were instrumental at E! Entertainment in getting the system in quickly, having first seen the system just a month ago.
Mad River Post, NYC:
After seeing it a many a trade show, Elliot Wolfson of Mad River Post finally called us recently with the OK to get a server. The 4TB server system includes 7 DAW interface seats, all their existing SFX and music libraries, our ProMaster mastering software suite to load up the pop music and soundtrack CDs they use on a regular basis, and a purchase of the complete SoundStorm SFX library, occupying about 400GB of their 4TB RAID. The installation is the latest of a steady procession of mSoft servers going into the New York City area this year.
mSoft goes to school at Illinois Institute of Art
Manufacturers always love it when the next generation comes up using their products, and we're no different. We're very proud that the Illinois Institute of Art choose our system as the music and sound effects management to train their students on. Every ProTools rig in every classroom will be connected to the 250GB server via their network, and every student going through their audio program will use it. Juliet Teipel, the schools Library Director, ordered the system to accommodate their 200 CD library and future updates. Our thanks to Juliet for choosing mSoft as the audio management solution our next generation of audio editors is educated on.
So - the summer winds down here in Los Angeles but the orders continue to blow in like the Santa Ana wind (and the little earthquakes) - call us today for a quote at 800-489-9314 or 818-716-7081!
